In Case of Emergency

C-A-N: WSA EMERGENCY PROTOCOL

  1. CALL – If you see flooding, a slide or fire:
    1. CALL 911 to activate emergency assistance. Calling 911 also means that the event at Whidbey
Shores will go into a responders’ database where WSA emergencies are tracked, possibly resulting in resolution of what is causing the emergencies.
    2. CALL 360-499-6416 for WSA urgent issues only. These are WSA’s designated phone numbers and will allow you to reach a Board member. If no one answers leave a message, however PLEASE continue to call these numbers until you reach a live person.
  2. ADVICE – Follow emergency advice and warning notices from County, Emergency Personnel or emails from the WSA Board for your own safety. Stay clear of downed electrical wires and under no circumstances drive over downed wires unless directed to do so by emergency personnel.
  3. NOTICE SPECIAL EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
    1. SLIDES – At WSA, owners of land where slides occur are financially responsible for costs associated with cleaning up the slide. You must call your preferred contractor to clean up the slide from the roadway right away or you may contact the WSA Board to contract for the cleanup, which will subsequently be billed to you, the owner. If you are unaware of a slide from your property that is impacting access to the road, the WSA Board will attempt to contact you as soon as we learn of such a slide. If, after 1 hour from our initial attempt to contact you, we are unable to reach you or if the contractor you have called is not on site to clear the slide and unblock the road, the WSA Board will contact a contractor and have the slide cleared for you at your expense.
    2. FLOODING – If flooding blocks access and you need evacuation call 911; emergency responders on Whidbey have an evacuation boat that can come up close to homes on the water. If you see water gathering above the road drains due to heavy rain or high tide, please contact the WSA urgent issues numbers stated above.
    3. WATER OUTAGE – If you notice reduced water pressure or no water service, please contact the WSA urgent issues numbers stated above. The WSA board will notify membership of all planned and unplanned outages the board is aware of by e-mail. If you have reduced water pressure, please do not use the water except in dire emergencies. If the water mains are depressurized it makes the restoration process longer.
